Application: THE COMMONS Test Pilot

The Myths of Entrepreneurship

You know how to be your own boss.

  • Starting your own business is easy.
  • Entrepreneurs are risk takers.
  • It’s all about money.
  • Customers and investors will come.
  • A great idea is an easy sell.
  • You need a college degree.
  • It’s too late; you’re too old.
  • Entrepreneurs never quit or fail.
  • Self-employment is in your blood.

The truth

  • You may think you know it all, but you could be the worst boss you ever had. You will need to acquire talents, knowledge and experience you have not needed as an employee.
  • Entrepreneurship is not an alternative to work. It will never be 9 to 5. You may be working from home, but during startup there will be little time for family.
  • Risk takers are fools. The goal of an entrepreneur is to avoid risk. Owning your own business is not a game of chance.
  • As an employee, someone else brought the customers to you. Marketing takes time. You might do it without money, but reaching out online is not an easy alternative.
  • A smart entrepreneur has something new to offer. But customers probably won’t see the value like you do. You will need to change mindsets to get them out of their comfort zone.
  • Being a successful entrepreneur does not require academics. The most successful are graduates of the “school of hard knocks,” regardless of their diplomas or degrees.
  • The average age of a startup entrepreneur worldwide is 45. Other statistics show that in the U,S., 25 percent of entrepreneurs are between 20 and 34 years of age. Sixty percent start their own businesses between 40 and 60. In 2020, retirees are starting their own businesses.
  • Sadly, statistics show that between 70 and 90 percent of new startups fail in the first five years. Among other reasons, sustainability is too often overlooked.
  • No one was born to be an entrepreneur. The pathway to becoming an entrepreneur varies depending on the human experience. Young or old, more people are looking to entrepreneurship due to social, political and economic conditions.

90 Days

Whether you are stuck at home due to COVID-19 or still out there, risking your life, struggling to survive, you owe it to yourself to take the time necessary to plan for a better future.

Don’t let the stress devour you.

There is no better time to rethink than during a time of crisis. And it’s generally agreed that when the virus is under control, life will not return to normal. It will be a new normal and you need to be ready to make it a better normal for you and your family, your colleagues, friends and neighbors, your community and your country.

I’m here to help.

My first offer is to guide you to that better future by planning for it over the next 90 days. With the benefit of intense coaching you will develop your own personal strategic plan. You will build a framework for a business plan using THE COMMONS Business Model and the B Corp Impact Assessment.

I will work with you as if you were going to be my partner. In fact it could happen.

Test Pilot

While I am working as the world’s only coach with a socially responsible, self-managed, profit-sharing business model, I am watching my clients closely to find the one who will join me as partner in the startups of his or her company and mine.

The chosen one will benefit from a full year of my dedicated support in exchange for the demonstration of how a local COWORKS Entrepreneurs organization will work in a local community.

We will be partners and cohorts in the startups of our companies. Mine will become the founding COWORKS Entrepreneurs franchisor and his or her company will become the first franchisee.

By the end of that year, my company will be fully staffed with senior coaches in the fields of Human Capital, Finance, Marketing, Technology, Fulfillment and Socially Responsible Investment (SRI).

The Test Pilot will have been recognized as the first COWORKS Entrepreneurs franchisee without having paid a franchise fee. In addition, the Test Pilot’s company will receive another three years support from COWORKS without an annual royalty.

Imagine it. Over four years of professional support and worldwide acclaim as the first COWORKS Entrepreneurs franchisee.

This offer is one of a kind. It is truly once in a lifetime.
